Michelle Worth’s eclecticism resonates from the DNA of her past labels Opium and Spectrum. Opium embodied both her Chinese and Indonesian heritage, and Spectrum’s mission to reach beyond the frontiers would fuse fashion with conceptual art. Michelle Worth aims to create collections that fuses art, music, and stories, into a solid style that would appeal to today’s women of various personalities. The attention to detail, immaculate finishes, and neat structural forms maintains the prestige her previous labels have established.
Growing up in her mother’s gallery in Singapore, it was the artists and paintings enveloping Michelle that inspired her to be present in the artistic world. This love manifested itself in fashion, and she attended summer courses in Parsons, New York and Central St. Martins, London, and ultimately, in IED Moda Lab in Milan. Michelle started her business in fashion in 2009. Prompted by a small event to showcase her collections, more demand for her cheongsams encouraged her to establish Opium. The label was an immediate hit. This demand inspired Michelle to create a brand that women would crave to collect.
Michelle is inspired by the anatomy of the world, may it be rhythm of music, mathematical patterns in nature, the course of history, or the unknown frontiers of space.
